Night Duty: Justiceworx Wk 2, Day 3

Today was a good day at Enable. We strolled in at 9am and were parsoned off to our different groups. I played a little bit of Beatles music for a consumer named Carol who loves the Beatles, then I painted with some of the kids in my group and some consumers. It was great. Then we had an excellent lunch discussion. We talked about how God factored into their lives and how they could own up to their own beliefs in God. After lunch we went back in Enable and split off into groups again. I ended up playing Monopoly with the Beatles loving consumer against a staff member, volunteer, and another consumer. We ended up losing in the end, but just that share of community with the consumer I was paired with was nice.

I gave the staff talk about my relationship with God. It's interesting reflecting on the progression of my own beliefs from high school to college age. I talked about how I was so set on how God judges people that I almost blinded myself from other perspectives. After some tough personal events I ended up re-imagining my belief in God with the help of SJU and my theological instruction. I think the kids got a lot out of my talk (at least I hope they did).

At the moment I'm on night duty. We basically walk around the boys dormitory in pairs and make sure they aren't doing anything too crazy before bed. We check to make sure they're in bed and sleeping. Tonight has been interesting because the boys were pretty up and at 'em, even though half of them talked about how tired they were, etc., during gifts and challenges today.

I love Justiceworx even though the boys don't listen to the nighty duty people. It's so classic high school. One wants to be cool in front of their peers so they act tough in front of the college kids with the power. They also could just be not tired. Oh well. Either way night duty's always fun because we get to stay up a bit later and talk to each other as leaders. It's nice to hang out with the other guys here. I really need to find more guy friends, although the ones I have now are incredible (love you all!)

That's it from here. Have a wonderful tomorrow!
-Jeff
